'Pride and Prejudice' Series in Development at Netflix from Dolly Alderton
This comes after it was recently reported that the streamer has also begun developing a new Pride & Prejudice series from Dolly Alderton. Prior to the upcoming project, Austen's novel was famously adapted into a film in 1995 starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen as Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy, respectively.
"Set in the gentrifying Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, Pride centers on Afro-Latina teen Zuri Benitez as she fights to preserve her neighborhood and navigate family chaos," the synopsis reads. "But when the wealthy Darcy family moves in next door, Zuri's disdain for the arrogant Darius Darcy spirals into an unexpected connection that forces her to rethink everything she thought she knew about pride, prejudice, and home."
The Pride film will be written by Karen Joseph Adcock. Barack and Michelle Obama's Higher Ground will be executive produced by Leslie Morgenstein, Elysa Koplovitz, Vinnie Malhotra, Anikah McLaren and Mark Wright. It is produced by Alloy Entertainment, Higher Ground Productions and Netflix.
