Disney has officially found a director for the upcoming The Princess Diaries 3. According to Deadline, Adele Lim has been tapped to helm the highly anticipated project.
Anne Hathaway looks back on filming The Princess Diaries with the "radiant" Julie Andrews.
Lim has worked in Hollywood for over 20 years, but is best known for co-writing the hit Crazy Rich Asians. Lim went on to write the 2021 Disney film Raya and the Last Dragon and direct and produce 2023's Joy Ride, which she also co-wrote with Family Guy writers Cherry Chevapravatdumrong and Teresa Hsiao.
“As a diehard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I am incredibly excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” Lim said in a statement to Deadline. “We look forward to celebrating the essence of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences around the world.”
At this point, not much is known about the third installment of the film. Anne Hathaway — who starred in the original film and its sequel — has given promising updates about the project over the years, but hasn't revealed much beyond that. Unfortunately for fans of the franchise, Julie Andrews — who played the grandmother of Anne Hathaway's Mia Thermopolis — has said that she doesn't think it makes sense for her to return for the third film.
