“War has no place in a civilized society” – Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi
A live broadcast of CBS' The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from Chicago was interrupted Tuesday night when protesters poured into the Auditorium Theatre. Colbert was interviewing former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when outbursts were heard from the audience, prompting the host to warn, "Please don't interrupt my guests." (See video below.)
As Pelosi spoke about her new book, The Art of Power, a woman could be heard shouting from the audience. Colbert explained, "For those of you at home who can't see, there's a protest going on in the audience right now. Hold on, young lady, I can hear you. We're actually in a commercial break, but the topic is Israel and Palestine, and if you'd like to sit down, we're going to have to go to a commercial break and when we come back, I'll ask the next question I had on that topic, if you'd like to listen."
After the break, Colbert asked Pelosi about “the appropriate use of American power” abroad. “If the goal is a peaceful and prosperous future for both Israel and the Palestinians, what role does the United States play?”
