Johnson revealed that she began to have doubts about her role on the prolific sketch comedy show before season 49. "I talked to my team. I was like, 'Look, I don't really know if I'm suited to this job, so maybe I should just end it,'" Johnson said. "But I told them very, very late, right after I found out I had to go back. And it was like, 'Now, Punkie, you need a plan. You can't just quit your job.'"
Johnson decided to stay with the cast for season 49, saying everything was “great” the first few weeks.
"I think I did about three or four sketches in the first half [of the season]," she added. "And usually I only get two or three in the whole season, so I'm like, 'Oh man, I'm doing great. This is my season.'"
