The duo joins a stellar production team that also includes Academy Award winners Riz Ahmed and Allie Moore, executive producers for Left-Handed Films (The Long Goodbye), Good Movies Inc., and producers Christina Won (Birdman) and Jessica Sittig, among others.
Minhaj now plays a dual role: he also has a supporting comedic role in the film.
Mustache is an homage to John Hughes’ coming-of-age films, ‘90s nostalgia, and the awkward transitions of puberty. Set in Northern California, the story centers on 13-year-old Ilyas, a Pakistani-American played by new discovery Atharv Verma, whose world is turned upside down when his parents abruptly transfer him from his familiar private Islamic school to the challenges of public schooling.
