Republicans have officially confirmed Donald Trump as their nominee for the 2024 election.
Donald Trump Officially Becomes 2024 Republican Presidential Nominee at RNC
As the delegates read through the names, Trump announced his running mate: JD Vance, the senator from Ohio.
After Trump reached the required 1,250 delegates thanks to the Florida vote, the sound of Celebration resounded through the Fiserv Forum.
This is the third time Trump has won the GOP nomination, but it's a sharp contrast from his first. On the first day of the 2016 convention, there was still unrest among delegates over the convention rules. A few days later, one of Trump's rivals for the nomination that cycle, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), gave a speech telling delegates to "vote their conscience" and refused to support his candidacy. Cruz later did so and is scheduled to speak at this convention later this week.
