Why You're Not Prepared for THIS Alien: Romulus Scene

After directing 2012’s “Prometheus” and 2017’s “Alien: Covenant,” Ridley Scott handed over the franchise’s directorial reigns to “Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead” director Fede Alvarez for the upcoming “Alien: Romulus.” But Scott, who remains a lead producer on the project, worked closely with Alvarez on its development. He recently told the Los Angeles Times that Alvarez’s first draft of the screenplay was long, as most screenplays are long at the beginning, and the two worked together to refine it.

"The danger with all franchises is that they're going to fail unless someone suddenly decides to pick up the mat and run onto the court with a ball," Scott told the publication. "Fede is an energy bomb, and I had to step back and let him do his thing … Fede had a blueprint in his head, and his script was pretty clear. It was also long, but scripts are always long. And so we kind of went with that."

Although Alvarez contacted Scott every time a milestone was reached in the development of "Alien: Romulus," Scott was adamant not to interfere with the new director's work. The one thing Scott hates about directing his own projects is the constant advice he receives.
