Over a month ago, it was reported that Sony Pictures was developing a sequel to St. Elmo's Fire, with plans to bring back the original cast members including Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andrew McCarthy, Emilio Estevez and Mare Winningham.
St. Elmo's Fire sequel in 'early stages', says Rob Lowe
During a recent interview, Lowe confirmed the ongoing development of the St. Elmo's Fire sequel, revealing that the studio has indeed approached the cast about it. However, he shared that the project is still in the "early stages" of development.
"This is real. It's very, very, very, very, very early, and I don't want to say anything more than it's an early stage, real thing," he said (via Screen Rant).
The film, which was released in 1985, was directed by the late Joel Schumacher from a screenplay he co-wrote with Carl Kurlander. It follows the lives of a group of friends after they graduate from college as they deal with the challenges that come with adulthood. Despite negative reviews, it was a box office success, grossing over $37 million against a reported budget of $10 million.
