Robert Eggers wants to make vampires scary again in Nosferatu.
What Ralph Ineson Saw of Robert Eggers' Nosferatu Is "Simply Incredible"
In Eggers' gothic horror, Bill Skarsgård plays Count Orlok, the titular vampire obsessed with Lily-Rose Depp's Ellen Hutter. Count Orlok is a menacing creature, the polar opposite of vampires like Edward Cullen in Twilight. Eggers made sure to make Skarsgård's vampire as terrifying as possible to distinguish him from Stephenie Meyer's fantasy novels.
"We went all the way to Edward Cullen, where vampires aren't scary," Eggers told Total Film. "So how do we go the complete opposite way? Vampires were scary enough that people were digging up bodies, chopping them up and setting them on fire."
“I think we deserve another creepy, stinking corpse,” Eggers added when referring to Skarsgård's transformation into Count Orlok.
