“Rise of the Raven,” the upcoming European event series from Beta Film, behind “Babylon Berlin” and “The Swarm,” and producer Robert Lantos (“Sunshine,” “The Sweet Hereafter,” “Eastern Promises”), will make its world premiere at Mipcom content show in Cannes on October 22.
Beta Film has exclusively shared with Variety a first teaser for the series, which serves as a refreshing introduction to the scale and ambition of Rise of the Raven’s production values, as well as the brutality of its battle scenes, as the 10-part epic tells the extraordinary true story of Hungarian military commander Janos Hunyadi, played by explorer Gellért L. Kádár, who turned the tide of the Ottoman Empire’s seemingly unstoppable advance into Europe.
This seems to be the high point of the series, as in 1456, when Hunyadi won a bloody battle at Belgrade against a huge Ottoman army twice as large as his own, sometimes armed only with slings and patriotic sentiments.
