Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez urged China to “accept and respect” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s “unequivocal declaration that the West Philippine Sea (WPS) is ours and will remain ours.”

Rodrigues also praised Marcos's statement that the Philippines must not give in or falter on the WPS.
“We have a right to our EEZ (exclusive economic zone) under international law. The president confirms our rights over areas that are legally ours. We claim what the law gives us, no more, no less. China can claim what is rightfully itss, and we will respect that,” he said.
Rodriguez said Beijing “is overextending its territorial claim and encompassing waters, islands and resources that are very, very far from its own EEZ.”
