Roy Wood Jr. Named Host of CNN's Comedy Series 'Have I Got News for You'
CNN has tapped Roy Wood Jr. to turn Saturday night into a spot for comedy that ties into the headlines.
The former “Daily Show” correspondent has been named host of “Have I Got News For You,” an American version of the long-running BBC comedy series. The 10-episode series debuts Saturday, Sept. 14 at 9 p.m. Eastern on CNN and will air regularly on Saturdays before becoming available on Max, the streaming service owned by parent company Warner Bros. Discovery.
The series will tie in with the revivals of Bill Maher's HBO roundtable show, "Real Time." CNN hopes to focus on news-driven comedy, said Amy Entelis, CNN's executive vice president of talent and content, who told Variety about such plans in a May interview. Weekend viewers might want a break from the intensity of the news week with lifestyle programming or "a laugh at something and maybe be able to connect with a personality who wouldn't necessarily host a show on CNN or even an original series," she said. "We'll explore that in the future."
