While Deadpool & Wolverine is still enjoying success at the box office, another film franchise is celebrating its 20th anniversary thanks to Ryan Reynolds.
"He was a beautiful man of his word": How Ryan Reynolds helped get Harold and Kumar to the white
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle star Kal Penn and producer Nathan Kahane revealed that the Golden Globe-nominated film played a key role in the making of the 2004 stoner comedy as they recently celebrated its anniversary.
Penn told Rolling Stone in an oral history of the film that support for Reynolds began when they starred together in National Lampoon's Van Wilder (2002).
“Ryan was incredibly helpful during the audition process for Van Wilder. In the final callback, it was between me and a white guy in brownface for the role of an Indian exchange student. He said to me, ‘What do you think about improv?’ So we improvised the scene and he was clearly rooting for me to get the job. The whole production was amazing. He said to me once in passing, ‘When you get your first lead, let me know and I’ll play the supporting role.’ When Harold & Kumar came on the scene and we were talking about cameos, I reached out to Ryan and he was like, ‘Yes, absolutely.’”
