Phase (Transgender Suicide Awareness Song) – Lyrics
It's rare to hear new music from Sade these days — she hasn't released an album since 2010's "Soldier of Love" — but in a few months she'll release her first new song in years.
The reclusive singer-songwriter is releasing “Young Lion” as part of the benefit album “Transa,” out November 22. The project, put together by nonprofit Red Hot, aims to support transgender awareness and spotlight both trans and non-binary artists. “Young Lion” is dedicated to Sade’s son Izaak, who identifies as a transgender man.
“We started talking about all the gifts that trans artists have given to the world, and wanted to create a Red Hot project that centered and celebrated those gifts,” says Dust Reid, who curated “Transa” with artist Massima Bell. “We hoped to create a narrative that positions trans and nonbinary people as leaders in our society, in terms of the deep inner work that they do to affirm who they are in our current climate. We felt like this is something that everyone should be doing. Whether you identify as trans or nonbinary or otherwise, if you took the time to explore your gender, to get in touch with the feeling side of yourself, maybe we could have a future that is centered on values of community, collaboration, care, and healing.”
