SAG-AFTRA has reached a deal with AI startup Narrativ for audio voice replicas in digital advertising. The union says the deal “sets a new standard” for ethical use of the technology and also makes it easier for artists to consent and get paid.
New York-based Narrativ operates an online marketplace that offers advertisers tools to create audio spots using AI tools. The company’s new agreement with SAG-AFTRA promises to give the union’s 160,000 members the ability to add themselves to a database that connects voice actors with advertisers. Individual members will have the ability to negotiate fees for the use of their voices on a project-by-project basis, as long as the fee is no less than SAG-AFTRA’s minimum under its most recent commercials contract with advertisers.
