Sam Mendes has expressed doubts about directing another James Bond film after directing 2012's Skyfall and 2015's Spectre.
DIRECTOR SAM MENDES ON SPECTRE
In HBO's The Franchise, the filmmaker parodies the process of making big-budget franchises, and in a new interview, he explains why he doesn't think he'll direct another James Bond film.
“They don’t want people with a big track record,” Mendes said in an interview with Inverse. “They want slightly more malleable people who are earlier in their career and maybe using it as a stepping stone, and who are more controllable by the studio.”
While Mendes noted that you should “never say never,” he added, “I doubt it. It was really good for me at that point in my life. I felt like it broke some of my old habits. It made me think on a bigger scale. It made me use different parts of my brain. You have to have a lot of energy.”
