"My next film will revolve around that, too. I'm working on a script that combines dance with storytelling. I'll probably do it for the rest of my life. At this point, I'm too attuned to the rhythms of the body and the politics of it," the first-time director tells Variety.
In “Familiar Touch,” premiering in Venice’s Orizzonti section, she celebrates the sensuality of older adults, particularly Ruth (“The Affair”), who is transitioning to life in a nursing home. Carolyn Michelle, Andy McQueen and H. Jon Benjamin also star.
“We often talk about older adults ‘paling’ and things becoming ‘fuzzy.’ But as some of their cognitive functions decline, other senses become heightened. Touch, taste, smell – they can all become very vivid,” she says.
