ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese sat down with Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie star Carolyn Lawrence to talk about the Nickelodeon film. She talked about voicing the character for 25 years, what's new in the film, and more. The film is streaming now on Netflix.

“When Bikini Bottom and all its inhabitants are suddenly scooped out of the ocean, Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob SquarePants travel to Texas to save the town from a villainous plot,” the synopsis reads.

Tyler Treese: You've been voicing Sandy Cheeks for 25 years and this movie comes out on the anniversary, which is just amazing. I just wanted to know what you think about the longevity of Sandy and the character still being as popular as she's ever been.

Carolyn Lawrence: I think it's really exciting. It's hard to believe that after 25 years we're still growing, you know? I think it's enduring because I always say it's such a happy place for people to land. It's a consistently happy world that Steve Hillenburg has created. Even when SpongeBob goes through his trials and tribulations, like whatever happens in his life, it always ends up in a good place. I think that means a lot in today's world, and I think it doesn't matter what country you're in or what language you speak; you understand the humor and you understand the love between all the characters.
