Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Resigns After Trump Assassination Attempt
Cheatle faced a turbulent hearing before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, after which the committee chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), joined the panel's top Democrat, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), in calling on her to resign.
Trump was struck by a bullet at his July 13 rally in Butler, PA, killing one attendee, Corey Compertore, and seriously wounding two others.
Cheatle faced questions about how the shooter was able to gain access to a nearby rooftop outside the event’s security perimeter, amid reports that authorities had been alerted to suspicious activity. She stressed to lawmakers that the investigation is ongoing.
