The 35th edition of SGIFF will host a special tribute and dialogue session with Panahi, who will receive the festival’s highest honor, the Cinema Honorary Award. This will also be the first time Panahi is visiting SGIFF in person after his 14-year travel ban was lifted. Panahi’s films including The Circle, This Is Not A Film and Crimson Gold will be screened at the festival.
The festival's Cinema Honorary Award was established in 2014 and recognizes filmmakers such as Hong Kong's Fruit Chan, Indonesia's Garin Nugroho, Cambodia's Rithy Panh and Japan's Takashi Miike.
"It is an incredible honor to be selected as a recipient of the Cinema Honorary Award by SGIFF," said Panahi. "Since attending the festival in 1998 with my film, The Mirror, I have been deeply impressed by the festival's achievements in nurturing and encouraging emerging filmmakers and film critics, while promoting Asian filmmaking. I am immensely grateful for the recognition and look forward to witnessing the next steps in SGIFF's remarkable journey."
