Some of the most lucrative roles on SNL have been as major political figures during election years. Almost immediately after Walz was announced as Kamala Harris' running mate, speculation began as to who would play him on SNL alongside the returning Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris.
The popular choice was legendary comedian, writer, and banjo player Steve Martin. Martin looks a bit like Walz, and Martin even joked about it on social media, saying, "I just heard Tim Walz wants to tour with Marty Short."
The producer of Saturday Night Live clearly thought Martin was the chosen one, because he quickly contacted Martin to play Walz on the show. But Martin was less than enthusiastic and turned down the offer.
