Mubi has released the trailer for The Substance, for its upcoming body horror thriller starring Golden Globe nominees Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley. The film will have its world premiere at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in May, and is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 20.

"The film follows Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-list star who has fallen on hard times and is suddenly fired from her fitness TV show by the obnoxious studio boss Harvey," the synopsis reads. "She is then drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug: THE DRUGS. All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the beautiful twenty-something Sue. The only rule? The time must be divided: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions. Perfect balance. What could possibly go wrong?"
