Top 10 Best 3D Movies
Many moviegoers won’t don 3D glasses in theaters again until December 2025, when “Avatar 3” is scheduled to hit theaters, three years after James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” became the third-highest-grossing film of all time, with a whopping 61% of its $2.3 billion global box office revenue generated by 3D ticket sales.
But there are still plenty of non-native 3D films hitting theaters, just not as many as there used to be. In the coming weeks, Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” on June 14, Universal/Illumination’s “Despicable Me 4” on July 3 and Disney/Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” on July 26 are among the high-profile titles that will be available with the glasses, hoping to win back fans with a quality experience.
The switch from film to digital projectors in the early 2000s helped spur the initial development of digital 3D screenings, and with 2009's "Avatar" becoming the highest-grossing film of all time, the format once best known for its use in films like "House of Wax" in the 1950s was once again a hit with audiences.
