Sunset Blvd., Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical starring Nicole Scherzinger and Tom Francis, topped $1 million in weekly box office last week. The St. James Theatre was filled to capacity for all six previews, joining McNeal and Romeo + Juliet as the latest big newcomers to hit Broadway.
Although it failed to sell out with an attendance of approximately 93%, Sunset Blvd. grossed a solid $1,075,922 for the week ending October 6. Opening night of the revival is October 20.
Director Sam Gold’s Shakespeare adaptation Romeo + Juliet starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler continued to go strong, opening standing room only for 7 previews at Circle in the Square and grossing $950,099. It opens October 24.
McNeal, starring Robert Downey Jr. in his Broadway debut, had a strong opening week at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theater, filling the house to capacity and grossing $969,768 for six performances.
