Directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” follows the late actor’s rise to superstardom as Superman, as well as his fight to find a cure for spinal cord injuries left him quadriplegic following a horseback riding accident. Reeve’s family collaborated on the making of the documentary, which features personal archival footage.
"It's a gift. We're so lucky," his son Matthew Reeve told Variety. "Not only do we have his films to watch, but we have a collection of home movies to dig up and go through and YouTube interviews of him to pull up. Seeing things that I hadn't seen before didn't change my perception of him, it enhanced it… like a rare Australian interview from 1977 that was uploaded that I didn't know existed. It was really cool to see that and discover a lot more material than we knew."
Variety's chief film critic Owen Gleiberman praised “Super/Man” — which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January — calling the film a “moving, gripping, compellingly well-made documentary” in his review.
