After Superman's death, General Sam Lane is given a special serum made from Superman's blood. This is the same serum that was used in Bizarro's resurrection in the previous season. This was after the question of giving Superman a heart came up, as Kryptonian hearts function very differently than regular humans. Clark lost his heart after his death after Doomsday ripped it out of him on Lex Luthor's orders.
