Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez is “incredibly proud” of Filipino boxer Aira Villegas, who is now assured of an Olympic medal after winning the quarter-finals of the women's 50kg boxing event by split decision against French bettor Wassila Lkhadiri.

“As a fellow Tacloban native, I am incredibly proud of Aira, our Tacloban champion, for securing at least a bronze medal after her hard-fought victory over a French rival,” said Romualdez.
"With her tenacity and talent, Aira still has a chance to bring home a silver or gold medal. Tacloban City and the entire country are cheering her on every step of the way," he added.
Romualdez also pledged to continue supporting Filipino athletes.
