There's a new member of 20-Squad on SWAT when Season 8 debuts this fall. CBS has released the first images of her interacting with her new teammates, as well as details about what'll keep them busy when the show premieres on October 18. (And to think, SWAT has survived two cancellations and shows no signs of slowing down.)
SWAT Season 8 Images Reveal First Look At Hondo's New Team Member
In "Vanished," SWAT heads out on a mission with personal ties for Hondo (Shemar Moore) as they race to find a group of missing students and their bus driver, Hondo's former high school football coach. Also, Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit) has reservations about Hondo's new 20-Squad addition, Devin Gamble (Annie Ilonzeh), an officer with a family background deeply rooted in crime. Check out photos from the episode below.
It was in the Season 7 finale that Hondo was given carte blanche by Hicks to fill the sixth spot on his team. As executive producer Andrew Dettmann told us at the time, "I think Hondo has someone in mind. I think because he's given carte blanche and because he's thinking of someone — I don't know who yet — it allows us to bring in someone who might not be an obvious choice, who might be, even from Hicks' perspective, a little bit controversial, but Hicks is not going to break his word. So whoever Hondo brings in, we all know Hondo wouldn't do it for the wrong reasons. So we're going to trust Hondo. Whoever he brings in as the sixth member of 20 Squad, it's going to be someone that Hondo is invested in and wants to see succeed."
Devin certainly seems to fit that description. "She's a badass and works her butt off. She can shoot. She's super cool. She's athletic and that's what I love. You see a woman and she's in her femininity and she appreciates that, but she's an athlete and she's also in her masculinity. She can outrun them all," Ilonzeh told TV Insider of her character as part of our extended fall Season 8 preview.
