The Taylor Swift effect is real. During the US Open in New York City on Sunday, the singer and his boyfriend Travis Kelce were spotted delivering a hardcore rendition of Darkness’ 2003 single “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” — complete with air guitar — leading to a viral moment where the two rocked out to the rock opera number.
That moment quickly translated into a streaming boost, as listeners flocked to Spotify to hear the song in its entirety. Between midnight and noon yesterday, streams of “I Believe in a Thing Called Love” on the platform were up nearly 70 percent in the U.S. compared to the day before, Variety can exclusively report. During the same period, streams of The Darkness were up nearly 65 percent in the U.S. and 60 percent globally.
