Tell Me Lies creator and showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer gave a disappointing update on the future of Tom Ellis' Oliver as the series wrapped up its second run. The character was introduced in Season 2 and quickly became a fan favorite. Oppenheimer also hinted that Season 3, which Hulu has yet to officially approve, could feature a time jump.

Oppenheimer said in a new interview that it's unlikely that Tom Ellis will return as Oliver in a future Tell Me Lies season 3.
Oliver is a professor at Baird College, a fictional school in Upstate New York that serves as the primary setting for the series. His wife is Marianne (Gabriella Pession), an English professor who also teaches at Baird. In the second season, Oliver has an affair with Bree, played by Catherine Missal.
When asked if the Lucifer star would stay on for more chapters of the show, Oppenheimer told Variety, "I don't think so." "I think Tom just wanted to do one season. I think we wrapped up his storyline in a way that really worked for me. I don't know where we would go with him after that. I think we could bring Marianne back, maybe. There's a lot more story to tell with her. But I think we've kind of learned that Oliver is so broken and hollow at the end of this season that I'm ready for Bree to be done with him," she added.
