The camp of suspended Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. has denied any link with Jad Dera, the inmate at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) detention facility who was caught with cash and firearms when he returned to the agency compound on Wednesday (June 20).

Teves' abogado, Ferdinand Topacio, told Teleradyo on Thursday (June 22) that Dera does not know the lawmaker personally. He, however, said Dera was acquainted with Marvin Miranda, one of the suspects in the assassination of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, as they are both in custody at the NBI facility.
Teves is considered the mastermind behind Degamo's murder.
Topacio also dismissed as “fake news” the report that Dera was caught with 25 million pesos in cash, which was allegedly used to bribe the suspects held at the NBI facility in connection with Degamo’s murder.
