The trailer for The Critic has been released, for the upcoming costume drama starring Golden Globe winner Ian McKellen as a theater critic on the verge of losing his job because of his sexual orientation.

The Critic is scheduled to hit theaters on September 13, 2024. Before that, the film had its world premiere last year at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is directed by Anand Tucker (Hilary and Jackie) from a screenplay by Patrick Marber (Closer, Notes on a Scandal). McKellen is joined by Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, Byzantium), Mark Strong (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Alfred Enoch (Harry Potter), Romola Garai (One Life) and Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread). The film is executive produced by Mark Gordon, Zygi Kamasa, Naomi George, Tom Butterfield and Harry White. The film is produced by Jolyon Symonds, Bill Kenwright and David Gilbery.
