Amazon Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" got off to a slow start to Season 2, failing to hold off Netflix's "Worst Ex Ever" for the No. 1 spot among original streaming TV series for the Aug. 30-September 5 period.
Meanwhile, Lee Daniels' "The Deliverance" topped the streaming original movies chart for the frame. The Netflix horror film starring Andra Day and Glenn Close has amassed 8.3 million views and 930.8 million minutes watched after bowing on Aug. 30.
“The Rings of Power” came in with 764.7 million minutes watched during the week for the three-episode run that began on August 29. Season 2 was delayed due to last year’s writers’ and actors’ strike. Two years after its premiere over Labor Day weekend 2022, the second installment of the latest Tolkien adaptation has so far generated a total of 827.9 million minutes watched. That’s a respectable showing, but given the property’s hefty value and the high profile it has for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expectations were undoubtedly higher.
