Developer Free Range Games has announced a release date for The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria on Steam and Xbox Series X|S. The day the game launches on those platforms will also see the release of The Golden Update, which introduces crossplay, sandbox modes, and more.

The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will be released on Steam and Xbox Series X|S on August 27, 2024. The game will be available on both platforms for a reduced price of $19.99 for a limited time.
The survival crafting game launched on the Epic Games Store and PS5 last year, and The Golden Update will be available on those platforms as well as Steam and Xbox. One of the main draws of the update is crossplay across all platforms, all of which will be able to host two-player games. Steam is a little more special, however, as it will be able to host up to 8-player sessions regardless of the participating players’ platforms.
Sandbox mode was previously only available during the Epic Games Store beta. Now all platforms can take advantage of the game mode, which generates game worlds from a wide variety of random seeds, allowing each playthrough of the mode to vary greatly in layout and difficulty. The mode also features recipes for 14 new weapons and armor, such as the Wolf Skin Hat, Gondorian Shield, Khazad Halberd, and Barôkamlut, which can be carried over to campaign mode as well.
