Apple’s new iPad Air is great. So great, in fact, that it’s probably not worth spending the extra $200 on the next-generation iPad Pro. Let’s take a look at the lineup and see what’s going on.
Apple updated its mid- and low-tier iPads this week, causing some confusion. If you’re looking for the cheapest, most basic iPad model, it’s easy. The only change is a chip upgrade.
But the new iPad Air is a significant step forward. It gets the iPad Pro’s cool edge-to-edge display design, shares the same accessories, and has a brand-new A14 chip. That makes it a tough decision whether to buy the Pro or go for the nearly-as-good Air and save $200.
“I’m using an 11-inch iPad Pro myself, and I can barely tell a difference between them and these new Airs,” Mac and iOS developer Matthias Gansrigler told Lifewire via direct message. “They seem pretty compelling, and if I were in the market right now, I’d probably pick an iPad Air over the Pro.”
