Real-life figures from 20th-century fashion, Nazi Germany and the French Resistance are featured in Apple TV+'s The New Look. Inspired by true events and filmed on location in Paris, the 10-episode series "will follow fashion designers Christian Dior [Ben Mendelsohn], Coco Chanel [Juliette Binoche] and their contemporaries as they braved the horrors of World War II and launched modern fashion," according to the streamer.

Viewers will also see other big names playing the part. For example, John Malkovich plays Lucien Lelong and Glenn Close follows in the footsteps of Carmel Snow.
The only character who doesn't seem to have a parallel in real life is Elsa Lombardi (played by The Newsroom's Emily Mortimer), described as a "friend, confidante and style inspiration" for Coco Chanel. That said, she shares a surname with Vera Bate Lombardi, a British socialite and business partner of Chanel.
