Nadia Caterina Munno, star and executive producer of The Pasta Queen, which hits Prime Video October 24, highlighted two key ingredients that make the series different from anything that came before it: five generations of her Italian family and their perspective on Italy versus an American perspective.

Munno, who comes from an Italian pasta dynasty dating back to the 1800s and has amassed millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, takes audiences across four different regions of Italy to explore cooking. The 13 episodes of the unscripted series take viewers through Campania, Puglia, Emilia Romagna and Lazio, where Rome is the capital. Lazio, Campania and Puglia were where Munno grew up, and her father’s family is from Campania. She wanted to include Emilia Romagna because of all the famous ingredients that come from the region.
“Prosciutto, balsamic vinegar, parmigiano reggiano, mortadella. I mean, the biggest, most famous ingredients come from that region,” Munno told Deadline after speaking on the “Heating Up the Kitchen & Our Screens” panel at the production company’s annual Shine Away conference. “It’s where lasagna was invented. Tortellini was invented there. So I wanted to pick the region, culinary-wise.”
Munno has been working with Hello Sunshine since early 2021. The show evolved from a sizzle reel and then a pitch before landing on Prime Video. The show was filmed in Italy for almost two months (seven weeks) last year and another four months in Munno’s famous Pasta Queen kitchen in Florida.
