The Perfect Couple by Elin Hilderbrand with DBC Reads
“The Perfect Couple” is the latest series to leverage the valuable IP of a best-selling novel. The murder mystery series, starring Nicole Kidman and now streaming on Netflix, is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s 2018 novel of the same name.
Developed for the screen by showrunner Jenna Lamia (“Good Girls”), the series follows Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), whose upcoming wedding to Benji Winbury (Billy Howle) is derailed after the death and alleged murder of her maid of honor Merritt Monaco (Meghann Fahy). As police investigate the family, they discover that each member of the bridal party harbors secrets of their own.
Despite the similarities, those who have read the book will immediately notice differences in the adaptation. For example, some characters in the show, such as Isabelle Adjani, a family friend of the Winburys, do not exist in the book, while some characters, such as Amelia's parents, are given much more space in the novel.
