"A battle rages in the Charles household," reads the film's official synopsis. "At the center stands a prized heirloom piano that drives two siblings apart. On one side, a brother (John David Washington) plans to build the family fortune by selling it. On the other, a sister (Danielle Deadwyler) has gone to extremes to preserve the only remnant of the family legacy. Their uncle (Samuel L. Jackson) tries to mediate, but even he can't stop the ghosts of the past. Based on August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, The Piano Lesson explores the intergenerational dynamics of identity, resilience, and transcendence—and reveals surprising truths about how we perceive the past and who gets to define our legacy."
The film also features Ray Fisher, Michael Potts, Erykah Badu, Skylar Aleece Smith, Jerrika Hinton, Gail Bean and Corey Hawkins. Washington, Jackson, Fisher and Potts all reprise their roles from the 2022 Broadway revival of the play.
