Iranian filmmaker flees to Europe after prison sentence for his Cannes premiere • FRANCE 24
Dissident Iranian author Mohammad Rasoulof escaped to Europe in May after being sentenced to prison and flogging by the country's authorities for making his latest film, “The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” which won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes.
He now travels to Locarno to perform his sweeping drama on the Swiss festival’s 8,000-seat Piazza Grande, about an investigating judge at Tehran’s Revolutionary Court who struggles with distrust and paranoia as anti-government protests grow and his family life is destroyed.
Rasoulof answered questions from Variety about adjusting to life in Europe and how he currently sees his country from the outside.
