For Tim Burton, directing the first four episodes of Wednesday proved to be the best for his film career. While filming Wednesday in Romania, Burton rediscovered his love for filmmaking, which eventually led him to Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

“Wednesday made me think about why I love making things. It was like shooting a movie on a TV schedule. It was fast. It was exhilarating,” Burton told Total Film Magazine. “We weren’t planning on doing a sequel. This was before there was talk of franchises. The first time I heard that word, by the way, was in Batman Returns. I remember hearing it for the first time, and it just gave me the chills.”
Burton's decision to revisit Beetlejuice revolved around one character: Lydia Deetz, played by Winona Ryder.
"There was something emotional that made me want to do it. There was something about [that] character, and what happens to people 35 years later. That was the emotional hook for me," Burton added. "What happens to people as you get older? You go through different things. You have kids. It changes you. Now I understand this stuff a little bit better. I've been through it myself."
