New lawmakers should not be blinded by criticism of their behavior and should accept it in a constructive manner, said former Senate President Vicente Sotto III.
WATCH: Sotto leaves Senate BBL hearing
During the necrological service for former Senator Rodolfo Biazon in the Senate on Monday (June 19), Sotto was asked how new senators should respond to observations about their behavior.
The question was based on former Senate President Franklin Drilon's comment about the “lack of decency” of certain senators, although no names were mentioned.
“They should welcome such observations, 'yong mga criticism of saka observations lalo nang mga antigo ay dapat pinakikinggan. We have done it before, I was a rookie senator in 1992 and I heard it all from (Ernesto) Maceda, (Edgardo) Angara, (Arturo) Tolentino, 'yong mga kasabay ko, sila Bobby Tañada. So you learn from the old guys,” Sotto explained.
