The actor, who is currently filming "Mission: Impossible 8" in Europe, jumped from the roof of the Stade de France, the country's largest stadium, and landed on the stage during the Olympic closing ceremony. He was greeted with deafening cheers and greeted by LA Mayor Karen Bass, who was presented with the Olympic flag by Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo during the celebration. He then jumped on a motorcycle with the flag in tow and rode out of the stadium to make the symbolic delivery to LA. As the Red Hot Chili Peppers' "By the Way" played in the background, Cruise drove through the streets of Paris and rode in a plane. In a pre-recorded segment, he then parachuted out of the plane and landed near the Hollywood sign. Once he touched down at the famous landmark, Cruise attached the five Olympic rings to it.
Cruise is a regular at these Summer Olympics. He attended the opening ceremony on July 27 and attended a few games, along with other stars including Steven Spielberg, Ariana Grande, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. The day before, on July 26, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor by French Culture Minister Rachida Dati.
As Variety first reported, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed at the LA Games handover festivities, along with Grammy, Oscar and Emmy winner HER, who sang the U.S. national anthem. Famed French bands Phoenix and Air and Belgian pop star Angele previously performed at the event, which was orchestrated by Paris Olympics artistic director Thomas Jolly, along with executive director Thierry Reboul.
