Tom Green, polygamist whose trial drew international attention, dies at 72
Utah-based polygamist Tom Green continues to garner attention years after his bigamy trial made headlines in the early 2000s. Before the trial, Green appeared regularly on national television shows, including Dateline and The Jerry Springer Show, to promote his lifestyle with his wives. His polygamy practices were previously explored in the 1999 documentary One Man, Six Wives and 29 Children.
Tom Green died in 2021 at the age of 72, AP News reported. He was survived by three wives, 34 children, 54 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren after his passing.
According to The New York Times, Green was convicted in 2001 on four counts of bigamy and one count of criminal non-support after failing to support nine of his children. The following year, Green was convicted of child rape after having a sexual relationship with his first wife, Linda Kunz, who was a minor at the time, while he was in his late 30s.
