Sam and Diane. Ross and Rachel. Scully and Mulder. The question of "Will they or won't they?" has fueled some of TV's best relationships and kept hopeful fans glued to their screens. But few couples have shipped harder (or longer, for that matter) than NCIS' Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo). Ever since they first met early in Season 3, the chemistry between "Tiva," as fans dubbed the duo, has been evident.

Tony's relentless energy and freewheeling charm blended effortlessly with Ziva's flirtatious banter and aloof detachment. They kept each other on their toes with playful banter, but also maintained the emotional distance required of people who regularly deal with tragedy. Beneath all their bluster and despite their very different backgrounds, there was always a mutual respect. And behind that, something more.

Tony and Ziva's opposites attract, love-hate dynamic was actually rooted in the actors' real-life bond. "Michael and I clicked right away," de Pablo has said. "We hated each other right away, and we loved each other right away… We realized we were so drastically different and so much alike that there was an instant attraction."

Of course, unrequited romantic feelings between partners were nothing new in the world of cop shows, even back in 2005 (think Brennan and Booth on Bones ), and the most prominent example today is Benson and Stabler in the Law & Order universe (Bensler!). It was the (extremely) slow burn of Ziva and Tony's relationship that helped viewers create their own passion for the pair over the years. So much so that TV Guide Magazine concluded in 2010 that "many fans have become obsessed with the romantic tension."
