Several documentaries, films and shows have chronicled the case of the Menendez Brothers since they gunned down their parents, Jose and Kitty, in 1989. In one of the most sensational cases of the '90s, Erik and Lyle Menendez are now fighting for a new trial. The brothers, who are serving life sentences, claim that new evidence could prove that their father, Jose Menendez, molested them as children and that their mother, Kitty, enabled the abuse. A former Menudo bandmate has supported the abuse allegations in a recent Peacock docuseries, Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed.
In recent years, many documentaries and films have premiered about the crimes of the Menendez Brothers and the subsequent trials. These include Menendez Brothers: Misjudged?, Menendez: Blood Brothers, Law & Order: The Menendez Brothers, and others.
Erik and Lyle reportedly spent three decades behind bars and recently appealed their convictions. Their attorneys have argued that the jury should have convicted them of manslaughter instead of murder, which could result in a new trial for the Menendez Brothers.
