YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE Clip | TIFF 2024
Not long after being fired from his job as an intergalactic truck driver for the largest nuclear waste disposal company in Eastern Europe, Ukrainian citizen Andriy Melnyk is blinded by a flash of light as his lumbering cargo ship hurtles through the Milky Way. When he regains consciousness, his robot assistant, Maxim, tells him that Earth has exploded and that Andriy is the only living soul left in the universe. Just a typical day for a cosmonaut in the interstellar gig economy.
Melnyk is the unlikely hero of “U Are the Universe,” a sci-fi romantic dramedy that marks the directorial debut of Ukrainian Pavlo Ostrikov. Produced by Anna Yatsenko and Volodymyr Yatsenko, whose credits include Valentyn Vasyanovych’s Venice Prize-winning sci-fi drama “Atlantis,” the film opens Sept. 7 in the Discovery section of the Toronto Intl. Film Festival. True Colors has acquired international rights to the film.
