President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. wants to continue the Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program despite the Senate resolution to suspend the program.
PBBM urges continuation of PUV modernization program despite calls for suspension
Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Pampanga on Wednesday (August 7), Marcos noted that 80% of PUV operators have already consolidated their operations. He said the fate of the program should not rest on the remaining 20% who have refused to join.
"I disagree with them because sinasabi nila minadali. This has been postponed seven times. Modernization has been postponed seven times and those who have objected or shouted and asked for a suspension are a minority," the president said.
Concerned about the high cost of modern jeeps and the low percentage of approved routes, among other factors, 22 senators signed proposed Senate Resolution 1096, calling on the government to temporarily suspend the implementation of the PUVMP.
