Free, ad-supported streaming TV continues to grow and was able to compete with premium subscriptions again in June.
TUBI REVEALS BIG CHANGE
For the second month in a row, Tubi, Roku Channel and Pluto TV combined accounted for a larger share of television (4.3%) than Max, Paramount+ and Peacock combined (3.7%), according to the latest edition of Nielsen's The Gauge, a monthly streaming report.
Tubi took 2% share of TV usage, an impressive 14.7% growth from May, posting nearly identical metrics to Disney+. In fact, when added to the combined total of premium services, Disney+ outpaces the combined usage of FAST channels by 4.7%.
The obvious answer to the success of FAST channels is that they are free. That is very attractive to consumers, especially as the cost of every premium service increases. But these platforms have also recognized (and built their platforms on) a number of other universal truths that have contributed to this growth.
