Multi-hyphenate screenwriter, producer, director Greg Berlanti will be honored with the 2024 Governors Award, the Television Academy announced today. Berlanti will be recognized for his significant impact on television and culture by portraying underrepresented people in films and iconic series including Dawson’s Creek, Riverdale, All American, The Flight Attendant and You.
Berlanti began his television career as a staff writer on the hit series Dawson's Creek, becoming executive producer and showrunner after just one season. He went on to create, write and executive produce more than 45 television shows, including Political Animals, Arrow, Blindspot, The Flash, Supergirl, Everwood, You, Titans, Riverdale, Doom Patrol, All American, Found and The Flight Attendant. Berlanti Productions has had a record 15 shows running simultaneously.
Berlanti has created many cultural firsts in the television industry through his passion for including the invisible and underrepresented in his stories. He helped introduce a gay character to a primetime television show and showed the first same-sex kiss between two men on American network television with Dawson's Creek.
